X-Rite joins with Kun Shan University in Taiwan to offer Color Control Freak management course for students and professionals in the photographic, design and graphic arts industries
Color Control Freak teaches the basics of color theory, terminology and color management workflow
Hong Kong – March 1st, 2012 – X-Rite, Incorporated (NASDAQ:XRIT) has joined with Kun Shan University in Yong Kang to offer for the first time in Taiwan its specialized Color Control Freak course in color theory and management for students and professionals in the photographic, design and graphic arts industries.
Kun Shan University, one of Taiwan's largest and fastest growing private universities with 14,000 students and more than 500 faculty and staff, will begin offering the intensive 16-module Color Control Freak course in its winter semester in March to satisfy the demand for additional education in color communication and management.
X-Rite, the world's largest designer and manufacturer of color measurement systems and the parent corporation of Pantone LLC, developed Color Control Freak as an accelerated course in the basics of color theory, the four C's of color management (consistency, calibration, characterization, and conversion), profiling, proofing, and other essential concepts in color workflow management.
"Kun Shan University recognized X-Rite as an international leader in color communication, so it was only natural that the university would want to use a proven X-Rite method to enrich its existing curriculum for students who are looking to enter the graphic arts, photographic and design industries and professionals who are already working in those fields," said Mr. Shei-Hsi Chang Ph.D., Chairperson/Associate Professor, Department of Information and Communication, Kun Shan University.
"We are very pleased to be a partner with the well regarded Kun Shan University in offering this concentrated course in color management," said Mr. Murphy Keeley, Vice President of Customer Success, X-rite US Headquarters. "Kun Shan University has made it part of its mission to bring the best quality education to students and professionals in affordable and accessible ways, and X-Rite shares that belief. The Color Control Freak course has helped hundreds of individuals to successfully understand and utilize the sometimes daunting terminology and workflow methods of color management."
The course made up of 16 modules lasting 45 minutes each is expected to be offered twice a year on the Kun Shan University campus, with class size of about 20 students. However an unrestricted number of nonstudents can take the training online. No prior training or prerequisite college classes are required to take the course.
Students will be taught how to use palette-building software tools to select and build reproducible color palettes, work with different color systems (RGB, CMYK, and spot colors), and use monitor calibration to improve color editing of both created and graphics.
The course will also address how to:
- Work with ICC profiles
- Get better screen-to-print color matching
- Use monitor calibration to improve color editing of both created and captured graphics
- Use in-house printers for accurate prints and proofs
- Work with Adobe PDF-X
