-DTP34 Calibration

Calibrating the DTP34, QuickCal

Densitometers and colorimeters all require periodic calibration to ensure accurate measurements. Begin by locating the Auto-Cal strip (PN DTP34-100). It is located in a protective envelope. This is a certified media. It should be cared for and replaced every 18 months. An expiration date is printed on the protective envelope.

NOTE: If your LED indicators are solid amber in color a calibration must be made before any readings can be taken.

There are two methods of calibration for the DTP34; Quick calibration which should be performed weekly and Full calibration which should be performed annually, or whenever performance of the instrument is called into question. Full calibration does additional checking of the lamp state and should not be used as the default calibration for the instrument.

Quick Instrument Calibration

  1. Using the supplied calibration reference place the instrument within the dotted outlines
  2. Press and hold the measure button, the green lights should start flashing slowly
  3. Scan the reference to the opposite end. Make sure that the you stop on white of the target
  4. Release the button and the lights should change to solid green- this indicates a successful calibration. If calibration fails (fast flashing amber LED), verify the strip is clean and re-read
  5. Place the reflection reference in its protective envelope and store away from light and heat

For other light combinations please see the document: What do the LED's mean?

Full Instrument Calibration

NOTE: If the host computer initiated calibration (amber LED), skip to step 2

  1. Using the supplied calibration reference place the instrument within the dotted outlines
  2. To manually invoke the calibration mode, press and hold the instrument button for a minimum of three seconds
  3. The LED will slowly flash amber when calibration is initiated
  4. Press and the hold the button (if not previously held) and scan the reference to the opposite end. Make sure that the you stop on white of the target
  5. Release the button and the lights should change to solid green- this indicates a successful calibration. If calibration fails (fast flashing amber LED), verify the strip is clean and re-read
  6. Place the reflection reference in its protective envelope and store away from light and heat
