I use to be a darkroom and minilab printer so from my first photographic steps I had noticed the importance of the color
What is the most important aspect of color management that an aspiring photographer should know?
That nothing happens automatically, you must have the control in every step of the process
Give an example of the ways in which a solid knowledge of color management (or an accurate color environment) helped you – on a project? In a consultancy situation?
In shoe catalogues the color is very important. I shoot many of them every season because I can give accurate color to my customers.
How long have you been associated with X-Rite?
I've been using X-Rite products since 2004 and I'm in the Coloratti group since December 2012
Why are you committed to using X-Rite products?
Because is what a photographer needs, products easy to understand, friendly accurate and affordable.
How important are the latest color management tools in today’s industry? Why?
Is the asset that makes you professional or not. Anyone can capture nice pictures with the new smart phones but professional images are based on professional tools and knowledge that very few people have.
What does the (near) future hold for the photo industry, in your opinion? Do you think color management will be more or less important – why?
The consumer products became better and better so the photographers is not important any more for family pictures. The quality of professional pictures for advertizing, magazine etc is the worst ever because everybody thinks that is so easy to take a picture. So, we see big companies with very bad big size pictures at airports or in city banners. I think that is a matter of time to understand the mistake and use again qualified professionals. Photographers have to be real professionals or go out of the industry. The knowledge of color management will be the minimum qualification for a photographer in future.
Do you see color management as an advantage for saving money?
No I see color management as an opportunity to make more money.
