When did you first understand the important of color to the photographic process?
To be honest I recognized the importance of the color management during my first commercial job with a digital workflow.
What is the most important aspect of color management that an aspiring photographer should know?
It is important for every ambitious photographer to deal with the color management of its system in order to show pictures in the desired form and expressiveness.
Give an example of the ways in which a solid knowledge of color management (or an accurate color environment) helped you – on a project? In a consultancy situation?
In my last job I had to deal with the shooting of high class working clothes. It was important for the client that the article (the clothes) are in the right color but also to keep the picture itself which was taken mostly on location with different light sources in the mood. During the consultancy which guided to the job as well as during the shooting and the post-editing of the work the ColorMunki was a huge part of the success of this project!
How long have you been associated with X-Rite?
I work together with X-Rite since beginning of 2009. The support and the products are great!
Why are you committed to using X-Rite products?
I was convinced of the accuracy, the speed, the practical application and the easy handling of the ColorMunki Photo.
How important are the latest color management tools in today’s industry? Why?
In a world in which digital pictures play more and more an important role (conscious or unconscious) but the end devices mostly are not yet calibrated in my opinion good corresponding color management tools for the industry are very important and developable.
What does the (near) future hold for the photo industry, in your opinion? Do you think color management will be more or less important – why?
It will become more important – for the commercial as well as for the private use!
How is color management related to your artistic process?
Here I have to repeat myself. If you wish to illustrate the expressiveness of a picture correctly to one person or to an audience, it doesn’t work without color management. Otherwise it’s coincidence if it’s a success.
Do you see color management as an advantage for saving money?
Yes, absolutely.

Nichts ist so wie es auf einem nicht kalibrierten Bildschirm und Drucker entsteht. Um heute Bilder in der gewünschten Form und mit der gewünschten Ausdrucksstärke zeigen zu können, ist es für jeden ambitionierten Fotograf wichtig sich mit dem Farbmanagement seines Systems auseinander zu setzten.
Geben Sie uns ein Beispiel, in wie fern Ihnen Ihre Farbmanagement-Kenntniss (oder eine richtige farbliche Umgebung) geholfen hat: bei einem Projekt? In einer Beratung?
Mein letzter Auftrag beschäftigte sich mit der Aufnahmen für einen Katalog für hochwertige Berufsbekleidung. Dem Auftragsgeber war es wichtig nicht nur die Artikel, also die Bekleidung, farbrichtig abgebildet zu bekommen, sondern auch die zumeist On Location aufgenommenen Bilder mit unterschiedlichen Lichtquellen in der Stimmung beizubehalten. Sowohl in der Beratung die zu diesem Auftrag führte, bei der Aufnahmesession selbst und in der Nachbearbeitung war die Arbeit mit dem Colormunki maßgeblich am Erfolg dieses Projektes beteiligt.
Wie lange arbeiten Sie schon mit X-Rite zusammen? Haben Sie noch andere Produkte von X-Rite ausser dem ColorMunki Photo?
Seit Anfang des Jahres arbeite ich mit X-Rite zusammen. Sowohl die Unterstützung und die Produkte sind hervorragend.
Warum engagieren Sie sich für die X-Rite Produkte resp. was hebt die X-Rite Produkte hervor? Was hat Sie überzeugt?
Mich überzeugen die Genauigkeit, die Schnelligkeit, die praktische Anwendung und die unkomplizierte Bedienung des Colormunki Photo.
Wie wichtig sind die neusten Farbmanagement-Tools für die heutige Industrie? Warum?
In einer Welt, bei denen bewusst oder auch unbewusst digitale Bilder immer mehr eine wichtige Rolle spielen, jedoch die Endgeräte meist (noch) unkalibriert sind, ist meiner Meinung nach gute entsprechende Farbmanagement-Werkzeugen für die Industrie sehr wichtig und ausbaubar.
Was birgt Ihrer Meinung nach die (nahe) Zukunft in sich für die Foto-Industrie? Denken Sie dass Farbmanagement wichtiger oder unwichtiger wird – warum?
Wichtiger, sowohl für den kommerziellen aber auch für den privaten Einsatz.
In wie fern bezieht sich Farbmanagement auf Ihren gestalterischen Prozess in der Bildbearbeitung?
Hier wiederhole ich mich. Möchte man den Ausdruck eines Bilder einen Einzelnen oder einem großem Publikum richtig darstellen, geht dies nicht ohne Farbmanagement. Ansonsten ist es Zufall, wie ein Bild ankommt.
